A brief biography of Hazrat Maulana Mufti Dr. Muhammad Manzurul Islam Siddiqui Sahib (Da: ba:).

Birth, Ancestry and Family Lineage:

Renowned Islamic thinker, philosopher, prominent medical scientist and researcher, Shaykh al-Hadith, Hazrat Maulana Mufti Dr. Muhammad Manzurul Islam Siddiqui Sahib was born on March 9, 1966, in Siddiqnagar, under Manikganj Thana of Manikganj District, into a well-known, noble, educated, pious, saintly, and Sayyid family. Before his birth, his father, Qutub al-Aqtāb (One of the most superior order of spiritual rank for Muslim saint) Alhaj Professor Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Azharul Islam Siddiqui Sahib (Rahimahullah {May Allah have mercy on him}), tearfully made Dua (supplicated) to Almighty Allah saying 'O my Lord, grant me a son and bless him with a noble soul like that of Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani (Rahimahullah). I will dedicate this son entirely to the path of Allah.' A saint of such a high spiritual rank, who brought forth this child through such a heartfelt prayer, was certainly exceptional. His mother’s name is Mosammat Nurun Nahar Siddiqah. She was a devout follower of the Islamic way of life and a woman of great piety and spiritual discipline. About her, Qutb al-Aqtāb once said, 'Whatever service to Islam I have been able to render is all due to your mother. Had she not supported me and managed everything from within, I could not have achieved anything.' She was the daughter of a highly distinguished family. Dr. Muhammad Manzurul Islam Siddiqui Sahib's paternal grandfather was Alhaj Professor Hazrat Maulana Sayyid Muhammad Nasimuzzaman Siddiqui Sahib (Rahimahullah), an ideal teacher of profound knowledge and a righteous Islamic scholar at Terosree College. He was also known as a poet in the Urdu language. His great-grandfather, Dr. Sayyid Abdul Jabbar Siddiqui Sahib (Rahimahullah), was a renowned British-trained surgeon and Islamic thinker of his time, as well as a distinguished poet in the Persian language. His ancestors originally came from Baghdad, Iraq, and migrated to this land via Kashmir, India.  .

Education Life:

He was widely known among his teachers as a brilliant student with an exceptional memory. From early childhood, he was different from others. Unlike most children, he was not overly engaged in games and sports; instead, he was inclined toward learning from nature from a very young age. He completed his Alim (Islamic academical degree equivalent to grade 10 board exam) in 1982 and Fazil (Islamic academical degree equivalent to bachelor’s degree) in 1985 from Manikganj Islamia Senior Madrasa. He then pursued higher education at the University of Dhaka, where he earned a B.A. (Honours) in Arabic in 1988 and an M.A. in Arabic in 1992, ranking 10th and 2nd respectively on the merit list. In addition to this, he earned an LL.B from Central Law College under the University of Dhaka, and a Masters in Hadith (MM Al-Hadith) from Mohammadpur Alia Madrasa, Dhaka. Possessing natural wisdom and benefiting from his father's special prayers and spiritual attention, he did not have to dedicate excessive time for studying. In 1994, he completed an M.Phil. in Arabic Classics, and in 1998, following his father's instructions, he joined the University of Dhaka as a Ph.D. researcher. His Ph.D. dissertation was titled: "Imam Azam Abu Hanifa (Rahimahullah.): His Contribution to Islamic Jurisprudence." His M.Phil. and Ph.D. research were supervised by one of the most respected scholars in Bangladesh — A.N.M. Abdul Mannan Khan Sahib, professor and former chairman of the Department of Arabic at Dhaka University, a double gold medalist, multilingual scholar, and author of numerous books. On December 12, 2009, the Honourable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of Dhaka University, Mohammad Zillur Rahman, formally conferred the Ph.D. degree upon him. Alongside his mastery in Arabic literature, Mufti Dr. Muhammad Manzurul Islam Siddiqui Sahib, by the grace of Allah, also acquired deep knowledge in medical science, space science, philosophy, psychology, physics, chemistry, jurisprudence, and Hanafi fiqh. After completing his B.A. Honours, he once brought home a form to apply for the BCS cadre examination (Bangladesh Civil Service, a prestigious civil service exam in Bangladesh). At that time, his father told his mother, “He doesn’t need to take the BCS exam. If he sits for it, he’ll certainly pass and easily become a magistrate. But then, who will manage my khanqah (spiritual institution)?” He did not allow him to submit the form — a clear indication of the special place he held in his father's heart from childhood.

Mastering Spirituality and ascension of Divine Arcane Knowledge:

Dr. Muhammad Manzurul Islam Siddiqui Sahib was a divinely chosen saint (Wali of Allah) by birth. From early childhood, he was raised in a spiritually enriched household grounded in full Islamic ideals. Under the direct guidance of his father, Qutb al-Aqtāb, he strictly adhered to the Sunnah. Witnessing the beauty of a life lived entirely by the Sunnah is best understood by observing the spiritual radiance (wilayati surat) in his own life. . A major part of his spiritual discipline revolved around serving his Murshid (spiritual guide), who was also his father. He loved his Murshid dearly, and he would never rest until he had fulfilled any command given to him — no matter how difficult. He obeyed every instruction with complete devotion and gave his utmost effort in fulfilling each one precisely. From childhood, he was frugal, wise, and deeply generous. He despised wastefulness and laziness. His attention to detail was extraordinary. Once, he noticed a discarded piece of wood inside their home. Instead of disposing, he collected the piece of wood and stored it with great care. Upon seeing this, his father asked his mother who had brought the discarded piece of wood back. She replied, “Who else? Your son Manju.” At that moment, Qutb al-Aqtāb made a heartfelt prayer: "You will see, this son of mine will one day take full responsibility of my spiritual institution (darbar) and manage everything." Today, nearly 30 years later, those words of the great saint are being fulfilled. Dr. Manzurul Islam now holds the reins of his father's established spiritual institution, Bishwa Ta‘lim – E - Islam Manikganj Darbar Sharif, and works tirelessly to spread Islam globally with a grand vision for the future. The day is not far when people from around the world — even non-Muslims — will gather at Manikganj Darbar Sharif, listen to the remembrance (Zikr) of Allah, and accept Islam in groups. There are several remarkable events in his spiritual life. One such example: when he was a child, his father used to dig a grave and spend extended periods in seclusion beneath the earth, engaging in deep muraqabah (spiritual reflection), mushahadah (visionary contemplation), and zikr (remembrance of Allah). Even at that young age, after his father would emerge, he would enter that very grave and sit there doing zikr himself. His father, Qutb al-Aqtāb Professor Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Azharul Islam Siddiqui Sahib (Rah.), used to ride a bicycle back home from college and also traveled to different areas for dawah (Islamic outreach). As a child, he would scrupulously clean and polish every part of that blessed bicycle — its wheels, pedals, handles — with utmost care and respect every day. Such a display of love and reverence, especially from a child, could only come from one who had been granted profound spiritual insight (‘ilm-e-ma‘rifah; Divine Arcane Knoledge). He remained fully devoted to serving his father until his father’s passing, dedicating himself with sincerity to this blessed service.

Receiving the Khilafat (Spiritual Succession):

On the 20th of Falgun (a month in Bengali calendar) in 1999, the great saint and scholar Qutb al-Aqtāb Alhaj Professor Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Azharul Islam Siddiqui (Rah.) formally bestowed full Khilafat (spiritual succession) of both the Chishtiya Sabiriya and Qadiriya Tariqa (Spiritual orders) upon his worthy eldest son, Alhaj Hazrat Maulana Mufti Dr. Muhammad Manzurul Islam Siddiqui Sahib. The ceremony took place at his ancestral home in the village of Teroshree Poila in Ghior Thana, in front of the graves of his grandfather and grandmother. A remarkable event occurred during this occasion. That day, several mystics — faqirs with long hair and dressed in red garments — came to Teroshree. This was in 1999, a time when people from all walks of life flocked to see Qutb al-Aqtāb, to take bay‘ah (spiritual allegiance) with him. Wherever he went, groups of people would pledge allegiance to him. However, that day, those faqirs refused to take bay‘ah from Qutb al-Aqtāb. They said, “We will not take bay‘ah from you. If your son gives us bay‘ah, then we will accept it.” In the words of Qutb al-Aqtāb himself, “I saw that if they are not given bay‘ah, they will be deprived of the means of attaining Allah. So right there, in front of the graves of my father and mother, I granted Khilafat to my son, Allah’s servant Manju.” After this, the faqirs took bay‘ah at the hands of Dr. Manzur. He further stated that he received order from Allah where he was commanded long before to grant Khilafat to his son, but he had delayed it. He publicly shared this story during the 1999 Annual Islamic Grand Conference, in front of hundreds of thousands of people. In February 2000, Qutb al-Aqtāb elaborated on his decision: "Manju is my son, yes, but that is not why I gave him Khilafat. He is different from all of you. In terms of practice and character, he is better than you. He has never wasted time sitting at tea stalls, never smoked a bidi (local cigarette). I know what all of you do. He is a man of a compassionate heart, which is why I gave him Khilafat. If you can find someone more qualified or educated than him, I would have given Khilafat to that person instead. I am entrusting you to such a compassionate person who has a heart full of immense kindness" He then added, “If anyone ever tries to act against this spiritual institution (darbar), you all must declare jihad against them.” At that moment, around 300,000 people raised their hands and pledged their support to the saint.

Directingas a Spiritual Master:

On the night of May 21, 2000 (Monday), Qutb al-Aqtāb Alhaj Professor Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Azharul Islam Siddiqui (Rah.) passed away. From that moment onward, the immense responsibility of leading the ṭarīqah (spiritual order) fell upon the shoulders of Dr. Muhammad Manzurul Islam Siddiqui Sahib. With his wisdom, foresight, patience, forgiveness, and strong leadership, he expanded the service of the ṭarīqah on an international scale. Several books authored by his father have already been translated into Arabic and English. He undertook significant reforms to elevate the standard of the Jāmi‘ah ‘Arabiyyah Siddiqiyyah Dār al-‘Ulūm — the Islamic academical institution established by his father in 1977 — by constructing a five-story building for its advancement. In 2003, he showcased his father's books at a national-level event organized by the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh, allowing the writings to reach a broader audience of esteemed scholars and the general public, gaining widespread praise and circulation. In Dhaka’s Uttar Badda, he modernized the Khānqāh-e-Siddiqiyyah (the spiritual institution), ensuring that visitors could comfortably engage in the remembrance of Allah (zikr). On July 9, 2004, he established the Siddiqiyyah Research Center with the inauguration of the Mahābhābanā Reflection Project (Mahabhabna; a philosophy of astronomy, a renowned book, a masterpiece, written by his father for which he received a golden award) . He also founded Bangladesh’s first research-based Islamic magazine, the monthly Bhatināw, and created the Siddiqiyyah Seminar Room, where scholarly seminars are regularly held. In 2001, he formed a research and service-oriented volunteer organization named the Siddiqiyyah Islami Youth Association, comprising talented students and youth from the Manikganj Darbar Sharif. The chairman of this organization is his beloved son, Hazrat Maulana Miqdād Siddiqui Sahib, who, like his grandfather and father, is an outstanding student and is already actively assisting in the work of the ṭarīqah under his father’s guidance. In November 2008, Dr. Manzurul Islam Siddiqui launched a primary health clinic to ensure accessible medical services for the common people. Additionally, he organized a historic forest-based Islamic grand conference and conducted social afforestation in the Kalabagan area of Uthuli, Manikganj, contributing both to the environment and to a spiritual atmosphere where hundreds of thousands of dhikr practitioners could remember Allah amid nature. He initiated a monthly spiritual gathering at Kalabagan and established a Jāmi‘ Masjid there. Prior to this, he had also founded mosques in Teroshree and Krishnadiya in Ghior Thana. Alongside these efforts, he worked tirelessly to spread the light of the Chishtiyyah Sabiriyyah Ṭarīqah in numerous districts across Bangladesh including Dhaka, Tangail, Noakhali, Comilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Teknaf, Khulna, Satkhira, Barishal, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Pabna, Rajbari, Gopalganj, Sherpur, Kishoreganj, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, and Netrokona. In the near future, it is hoped, Inshā’Allah (by the will of Allah), that the light of the Chishtiyyah Sabiriyyah Ṭarīqah will enter every household across Bangladesh. In this way, he continues to fulfill the sacred duties of his father with unstoppable momentum.
