Prayer for the love of Allah, the love of Allah's friends, and the success of good deeds
A prayer by whose blessings one attains the love of Allah, the love of Allah's friends, and the success of all the deeds through which one attains the love of Allah, and the love of Allah in the heart becomes greater and deeper than the love of life and wealth. The love of Allah becomes more beloved to one as cold water is beloved to one in times of thirst.
Hazrat Abu-Darda (RA) was a prominent companion who was a great scholar and jurist. He lived in the land of Sham and passed away in Damascus. He narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, Hazrat Dawud (PBUH) used to supplicate to Allah in this way:
Pronunciation: Allahumma inni as-aluka hubbaqa wa Hubba Mann Maiyuhibbuka Wal Amalallahi Yuballiguni Hubbaka, Allahummaajal Hubbaka Ahabba Ilaiyya Min Nafsi wa ahl wa minal ma-il ba-ridi.
Meaning: Oh Allah! I want your love, I want the love of those who love you. And whatever work, whatever deed, brings me your love. I will take you to that time to ask for alms. Income O Allah, make me know Your love. From, from my family and from the cold water Make it more beloved. (Tirmidhi, Jawaharul-Bukhari, p. 572)
Hazrat Haji Emdadullah Muhajire Makki (may Allah have mercy on him) He used to say:
Thirst like cold
I am more thirsty than you
Thirst is rising, the water is flowing,
You are so thirsty, you are so thirsty.
Oh God! Just like a thirsty person searches for cold water My heart thirsts for you more than that. Increase it more.
Like the thirsty soul's cold water
Give me more thirst, O Master.
